The Hidden Gem
of Redwater
The Redwater & District Museum transports you back to the homesteading era, the one-room schools, and the oil-boom days of our community.
Our Mission
Collecting, preserving, and sharing the stories of our community.
The Redwater and District Museum is tucked away in a small strip mall on 48 Street — between the Public Library and a restaurant — but its unassuming frontage hides a wonderful adventure inside.
Walk through the doors and be transported back in time: from the wilderness homesteading days, through the one-room schools that dotted the landscape, to Boomtown Alberta when oil was discovered near Redwater in 1948.

About
Our Story
Founded by dedicated volunteers and registered as a charity in 1977, the Redwater and District Museum has spent nearly five decades collecting, preserving, and sharing the artifacts and memories of our region.
Our collection spans the early 1900s — pioneer homes and farm equipment, photographs, antiques, and industrial tools — including a dedicated military display honouring the local veterans who served and defended our country.
The discovery of oil in 1948 transformed Redwater into a thriving boomtown. Today the museum helps tell that story to a new generation.
Get Involved
Volunteers are the heart of our museum — guiding tours, cataloguing artifacts, and running programs for schools and seniors. New members are always welcome!
